Inflow into Hogenakkal increases – The Hindu


Hogenakkal recorded an inflow of 50,000 cusecs on Thursday (October 23, 2025) evening, after River Cauvery flowed in spate. The inflow into the Cauvery soared with Karnataka releasing water from its reservoirs. On Thursday, Krishnaraja Sagar reservoir reached its full capacity causing heavy outflow from the dam.

In its wake, Hogenakkal that received an inflow of 32,000 cusecs on Thursday morning, witnessed a surge by the end of the day. With this, River Cauvery has registered flooding for the seventh time this year.

Rain continued to create havoc and flooding in Harur, where sections of the Harur-Tiruvanamalai road was blocked for public safety. Thanipadi road was completely cut off with the flood waters flowing on the road. The Revenue Department has diverted the commute route to Naripalli-Harur-Kottapatti road and Venkataramapuram road.

Boy stranded, rescued

A 15-year-old boy stranded in Thenpennai river due to flash flood was rescued by the Fire and Rescue Services personnel in a protracted operation that lasted for over seven hours in Ammapettai, Harur.

The boy, Ritwik had entered the river to bathe, when suddenly the river surged. He climbed atop a rock and waited there to be rescued. Fire and Rescue Services personnel were also caught by the surging waters and decided to rescue using ropes. The boy was eventually rescued.
