All measures are in place to ensure swift drainage of rainwater in the event of heavy rainfall, said Mayor M. Anbazhagan here on Thursday.

The Mayor checked the arrangements across the city’s five zones and directed officials to take steps to tackle potential issues such as water stagnation in low-lying areas, falling tree branches, and traffic disruptions. He instructed them to identify and clear waterlogged spots without delay and to intensify preparations for monsoon to minimise inconvenience to the public.

As part of the steps, electric motors, oil engines, tree-cutting machines, and mosquito fogging machines have been kept ready in all five zones.

New shutters have been installed in areas that are prone to severe waterlogging such as Dobi Colony, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Aadhi Nagar, Fathima Nagar, AUT Nagar, Krishnapuram, RMS Colony, Koraiyar Society Colony, and Thulasinga Nagar, to prevent water from flowing in from major canals. A pumping station equipped with 20 HP electric and diesel motors has been set up to remove water swiftly.
