The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Friday allocated ₹40,000 for each ward to improve street lighting around Chhath Puja ghats across the city.

“Proper illumination will not only add to the festive spirit but also ensure the safety of women and children visiting the ghats for rituals,” MCD Standing Committee chairperson Satya Sharma said.

According to a press release issued by the MCD, 841 Chhath Puja ghats across 250 wards have been identified for the lighting upgrade.

Ms. Sharma added that MCD’s electrical department has been directed to complete the work on a war footing.

In addition to lighting, the civic body will also undertake sanitation drives around Chhath ghats. “Chhath Puja holds great cultural and religious significance for Delhiites. MCD is committed to providing clean, well-lit, and safe ghats for devotees,” Ms. Sharma said.
