Poet Sakthi Jothi’s book on Sangam literature released


Former Union Home Minister and senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram launched the book ‘Sanga Ilakkiyam—Udal, Manam, Mozhi’ written by author and poet Sakthi Jothi here on Friday.

After launching the book, Mr. Chidambaram said, even in remote villages, there are people interested in Tamil language.  “Earlier while travelling in trains, people would read a book or novel but now everyone is glued to their mobiles. Same is the case while travelling in flights too. Everyone should buy and read Tamil books and cultivate that habit,” he said.

‘Work of research’

He said, this book is work of research on Sangam literature and it is specially meant for research scholars, Tamil teachers and professors. Author Jothi said, “As a woman I have faced a lot of challenges in life  post-marriage. It was my habit of reading books which helped me overcome them.”

R. Balakrishnan, retired IAS officer,scholar and director of the International Institute of Tamil Studies, K. Santhanam, managing director, New Century Book House, L. Ramamoorthy, professor, Central University of Kerala and literary critic N. Murugesapandian were among those who spoke at the event.
