“More than the education of students, their ability to rationalise events and things is even more important,” said School Education Minster Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi.
Speaking at the inaugural event of “Tamil Muzhakkam“ Stage Speaking – Personality Development Training International Workshop at Tamil Sangam here on Wednesday, he said, “Students with rational mind and thinking in addition to developing their self would also uplift the entire society.”
According to leaders and poets like Tiruvalluvar, a speech would be of no good if it was not thoughtful and provocative, he added.
“To make a speech more valuable it should possess the clarity to be easily grasped. To arrive at such a clarity, the beginners would be advised to hear speeches of orators and philosophers,” he stated.
Adding to it, he said, listening to others’ speeches does not necessary mean replicating them, but the beginners should reconfigure the speeches to suit their style and knowledge.
Importantly, through the workshop that is to be conducted from October 22 to 27, the participants from 38 districts should develop their oratory and leadership skills to enhance their personality in a positive way, Mr. Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi noted.
“In a society where the politicians and related allies are treated as toxic personalities, the younger generation instead of remaining in an eco-chamber and falling into the same ideas, should distinguish the good from the bad,” he noted.
That would introduce the students to several ambitious, intelligent, honest political personalities around them, he stated.
“Though memorising all the poems in the ‘Tirukkural’ is an arduous task, students should put efforts to understand the essence of all the poems,” he said.
“By doing so, the students could imbibe the values in the poems for the betterment of the society.”
Mr. Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi appealed to the participants to make use of the Kalaignar Centenary Library during their stay in the city for the workshop.
Collector K.J. Praveen Kumar and others took part in the event.
In a press meet following the event, Mr. Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, said that as torrential rainfall was recorded in several parts of the State, schools were advised to follow the Standard Operating Procedure issued to them to be followed during rainy seasons.
“According to it, water stagnation on school premises would be removed immediately with the support of local administration, open borewells would be closed, electric circuits would be handled with caution, among others,” he added.
Moreover, as the decision to announce leave for schools was left to the discretion of Collectors, the State government and School Education Department would not interfere in their decisions, he noted.
