Verdict in Chittoor mayor couple murder case likely on October 24

The VI Additional District Court is expected to pronounce its final verdict on Friday (October 24) in the sensational 2015 double murder case of then Chittoor Mayor Katari Anuradha and her husband Katari Mohan, who were killed on the premises of the Municipal Corporation office here.

The case, which has been pending for nearly a decade, faced several adjournments due to procedural and evidentiary reasons. The couple was brutally murdered on November 17, 2015, sending shockwaves across the State.

The Chittoor I Town police registered a case and identified the couple’s relative, Chandrasekhar alias Chintu (46), as the prime accused, along with 23 others. A chargesheet was later filed in the court. One accused was discharged due to lack of evidence, while another died during the trial. Two others continue to remain in remand.

Police recorded statements from 57 witnesses in the case. The killing, allegedly rooted in family disputes, had at the time created a State-wide sensation.
