Yathindra Siddaramaiah has spoken about an ideological successor to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and not a political successor, said PWD Minister and KPCC working president Satish Jarkiholi in Kittur in Belagavi district on Thursday.

“He (Yathindra) has not spoken about the next Chief Minister or the next KPCC president. He has only said that Satish Jarkiholi could be the next AHINDA leader in the State. I do not think that is wrong,’’ he added.

“Dr. Yathindra has felt that I share the liberal, progressive ideology of his father. He has felt that I should be his ideological successor and that I should lead the AHINDA groups after Mr. Siddaramaiah’s retirement. I think he has the right to express his opinion. There is nothing wrong in it,’’ Mr. Jarkiholi said.

“His statement (made in Kappalagudd in Raibag taluk on October 22), is not suggestive of the fact that Mr. Siddaramaiah will leave his position mid-way or that I will replace him before the end of the term. As of now, there is neither a proposal for replacing Mr. Siddaramaiah nor any discussion to that effect in the party,” Mr. Jarkiholi said.

He clarified, however, that he would stake a claim for the post of the Chief Minister in 2028. “I have said this in the past, too. It is for the party high command to decide on the appointment of the Chief Minister, after consultation with legislators,’’ he said. “We will have to wait and see as to who will be picked to lead the next government,’’ he said.
