60-year-old held for printing fake currency in Vizag


The Visakhapatnam city police on Thursday arrested a 60-year-old man for allegedly attempting to print fake currency at MVP Colony, late on Wednesday night.

The accused was identified as Sri Ram, alias Gupta, from Barwani district in Madhya Pradesh.

Police recovered a paper cutting glass table, printer, laptop, mobile phones, and fake currency notes of ₹500, and ₹200 denominations printed on one side without serial numbers from his possession.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mary Prasanthi said that based on credible information, following instructions from Commissioner of Police, Shankabratha Bagchi, the MVP police with the support from the City Task Force (CTF) conducted raids on a house at MVP Sector 11, and busted the fake currency operation.

The DCP said that the accused Gupta had purchased special papers from Mumbai to prepare the fake currency. After procuring the printer and other accessories, the accused began printing the currency and was caught by the police red-handed on Wednesday night.

ACP Annepu Narasimha Murthy, MVP Police Station Inspector KNSV Prasad and others were present.
