A 65-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by a youth at Aanaikoil in Mayiladuthurai district on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as M. Amirthalingam, 65, of Chettiyar Street, Aanaikoil. The accused, Rajamoorthy, 22, also a resident of the same street, was secured by the police soon after the incident.
According to police sources, a wordy altercation broke out between the two around noon. During the course of the quarrel, Rajamoorthy allegedly stabbed Amirthalingam in the chest with a knife. The victim collapsed near his house and died on the spot.
The body was sent to the Government Hospital in Thirukadaiyur for post-mortem. Superintendent of Police G. Stalin visited the scene. Poriyar police have registered a case of murder and taken up investigation.
