A meeting at the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) office which was attended by MLA Sriganesh Narayanan, Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender and senior officials, in Hyderabad, on Wednesday.

The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) is set to receive a major infrastructure boost worth ₹303 crore as part of a land compensation agreement linked to the construction of the State government’s elevated corridors along NH-44 and SH-1. A meeting in this regard was held on Wednesday at the SCB office which was attended by MLA Sri Ganesh Narayanan, Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender and senior officials.

Speaking to The Hindu, SCB Chief Executive Officer D. Madhukar Naik said that in total, around 170 acres of defence land is affected by the elevated corridor project, of which 24 acres belong to the Cantonment Board.

“When the land is transferred, as per the Government of India’s policy, the value of the land is either reimbursed or exchanged for infrastructure of equal value. In this case, the value of the land works out to ₹303 crore. The Ministry of Defence has agreed that instead of depositing this amount in the Consolidated Fund of India, it will be used to execute infrastructure works of equivalent value within the cantonment,” Mr. Naik said.

The ₹303-crore works have been earmarked for three major projects, the underground sewerage system in the cantonment, and the development of two major nalas, the Hasmathpet Nala and the Patny Nala, under the Strategic Nala Development Plan (SNDP).

“These works are aimed at improving the sanitation, health, and hygiene of the cantonment area. The nala projects will involve constructing boundary walls to prevent future encroachments and to properly channelise the flow of water,” the CEO said.

The projects will be executed by the State government through its implementing agencies, including the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).

Speaking to the media after the meeting, MLA Sri Ganesh stated that before tenders for the projects are finalised, public suggestions will be sought to determine priority areas for drainage and road development. Residents have 30 days to submit their requests and recommendations to the Cantonment Board.
