Young Indian cricketer K. Nitish Kumar Reddy from Visakhapatnam made his One Day International (ODI) debut during the first ODI between India-Australia at Perth on Sunday.
The 22-year-old all-rounder received his ODI cap from former India captain Rohit Sharma. With this milestone, Nitish becomes the third player from Andhra Pradesh to represent India in ODIs, following in the footsteps of Ambati Rayudu and Venugopal Rao. More significantly, he has etched his name in history as the first cricketer from Andhra Pradesh to represent India in all three international formats – Tests, ODIs, and T20Is.
In his debut ODI, Nitish made a quick-fire 19 off just 11 balls. His short innings included two sixes in the final over, which helped India post a competitive total in a rain-curtailed game.
It may be noted that Nitish made his T20 International debut against Bangladesh, in October 2024 at Gwalior. He received his Test cap, during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in November 2024, which was also in Perth.
Members of the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) took to social media to congratulate Nitish on his achievement. Wished poured in from fans in Visakhapatnam, across Andhra Pradesh, and the nation, celebrating the young cricketer’s historic feat.
