The Parawada police on Thursday arrested 11 persons for allegedly engaging in gaming activity on October 22, in Anakapalli district. They also seized ₹19.23 lakh cash, 17 mobile phones, two motorcycles and a car from the accused.
In a press conference on Thursday, DSP Parawada sub-division, V. Vishnu Swaroop along with Parawada police station inspector R. Mallikarjuna Rao, said that under instructions from Superintendent of Police, Tuhin Sinha, the police teams conducted a raid at Nakkavanipalem outskirts and apprehended 11 persons including the main organiser, J. Shiva (30), resident of Donkada Colony, Aganampudi,
During questioning, Shiva admitted that he had been running a restaurant near Lankelapalem and organising gambling games by inviting players from various places.
Cases have been registered against the detained persons under the Andhra Pradesh Gaming Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigation are ongoing.
The police have appealed to the public not to indulge in gambling or similar illegal activities, which are punishable under the law. The DSP warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found organising or participating in such activities.
