Five arrested for flying kites using banned manja thread in New Washermenpet

:

The New Washermenpet police have arrested five persons for flying kites using banned manja (glass-coated) thread, seized 14 kites and 4 spools of manja thread from them.

As the use of manja thread for kite flying can cause fatal accidents, there is a strict ban on the manufacture, sale, and use of manja thread within city limits. Police teams, led by inspectors, have been conducting regular patrols in their respective jurisdictions to identify and take action against those manufacturing, selling, or using manja thread.

Based on a tip-off, a team led by the Inspector of New Washermenpet conducted surveillance on Wednesday evening on Ramanujam Street, Washermenpet, and found three persons flying kites from a terrace using manja thread.

The police arrested the three – Anbazhagan, 23, of Tondiarpet, Kumaravel, 31, of Tondiarpet, and Saleem, 41, of New Washermenpet – and seized four kites and two spools of manja thread from them.

Similarly, the same evening, during a patrol in Ammani Amman Thottam,  police arrested two more persons, Vetrivel, 24, of Tondiarpet, and Satheesh, 24, of New Washermenpet, for flying kites with the banned thread. 10 kites and two spools of manja thread were seized from them.
