The Gandhi Market police have launched an investigation into a case relating to alleged theft of 404 diamond pieces which were being carried by a person involved in diamond retail business.
A case under Section 303 (2) of BNS (theft) was registered on Thursday based on a complaint from K. Selvaraj, 69, of Madurai who runs diamond retail business. The police said Mr. Selvaraj reached Tiruchi with the diamonds for testing the valuables on September 27.
After testing, he kept the diamonds in his shirt pocket and boarded a bus. He found the diamonds missing from his pocket after the bus crossed a few stops. He got down from the vehicle at Gandhi Market and lodged a complaint based on which a community service register was given a couple of days later.
The sources said a case was registered for investigation and added that three persons have been detained in connection with the crime.
