Four booked for illegal transportation of laterite stones


The Ullal police have booked four persons for alleged illegal extraction and transportation of laterite stones from Kerala to Mangaluru. The police have seized ₹10,000 worth laterite stones and lorry worth ₹3 lakh in which it was carried.

The police said a team of officers, who were involved in checking vehicles near Thokkottu flyover, stopped a lorry coming to Thokkottu from Deralakatte at 5.30 p.m. on October 23. Ashok Kumar Monterio, the driver of the lorry owned by Philip D’Souza, was carrying 400 laterite stones extracted from a quarry owned by Sunil in Kumble in Kasaragod district of Kerala. The police found the laterite stones were extracted without paying royalty to Kerala Government. The stones were being taken to the house of Rajesh in Nandigudde in Mangaluru.

The Ullal police registered a case against Ashok Kumar Monterio, Philip D’Souza, Sandeep, and Rajesh.
