The passenger list of the Vemuri Kaveri Travels showed that the drop-off points of most travellers were along the Bengaluru’s IT corridor, suggesting many of the deceased and injured were likely tech workers returning after Deepavali holidays.
According to the list, 36 of the 41 passengers were to alight at points along the IT corridor, such as Hebbal, Esteem Mall, Hennur, Kalyan Nagar, Tin Factory, Mahadevapura, Marathahalli, Bellandur, HSR Layout, Silk Board junction, Electronics City, and Bommasandra.
Victims Anusha Reddy and G. Dhathri, who were software engineers working in Bengaluru, were to alight at Marathahalli Multiplex and Tin Factory respectively. A family of four – Golla Ramesh, his wife Anusha, and two children – who were to alight at Kalyan Nagar, were also among the deceased.
Majority of the passengers were youngsters and most of them in their 20s and 30s.
Call for action
In the wake of the tragedy, the Greater Bengaluru IT Companies and Industries’ Association (GBITCIA) called for urgent action by transport authorities and service providers to ensure the highest safety standards for all intercity commuters and to implement measures preventing such incidents in the future.
“We remain committed to providing all possible assistance to the affected families and providing coordination between our member companies, local administration, and emergency services. We join the community in remembering the lives that were lost, and reaffirm our commitment to advocacy for safer travel and working environments for all IT professionals along the corridor,” said a statement from GBITCIA.
