Three youths attacked and snatched a mobile phone from a person near Salem New Bus Stand, video of which went viral on social media.
On Saturday, the three youths snatched the mobile phone from a person at the flyover near Salem New Bus Stand and a few people recorded the video and uploaded it on social media, which went viral.
Following this, the Pallapatti police registered a case and based on the video, the police identified the trio as 18-year-old college students and residents of Athikaripatti near Ammapet. The police nabbed the trio within a few hours. Investigations revealed that the victim was M. Suresh, alias Bhrammanayagam (30), a resident of Tirunelveli district.
Salem City Police Commissioner Anil Kumar Giri told reporters that Bhrammanayagam allegedly sent obscene messages via social media to the girlfriend of one of the youths. Through a fake ID, one of the youth contacted Bhrammanayagam and asked him to come to Salem. Believing that, when he came to Salem on Saturday, the trio attacked him, snatched the mobile phone and broke it. The youths were not in an inebriated state and did not rob money, as spread in social media.
Considering their future, the youths were released on station bail. Police are on the lookout for Bhrammanayagam who is absconding, the Commissioner added.
