Five houses were damaged after lightning struck on October 19 and trees fell on October 20 in Udupi district.
According to the Deputy Commissioner’s office, lightning damaged the houses of Shantarama Kotiyan at Padu village, Sharada at Amparu village, and Girija Devadiga at Maravanthe village on the night of October 19. The loss to these houses was estimated at ₹1.27 lakh.
In addition, two heads of cattle belonging to Janet Mendonca at Miyar village died when lightning struck on on the night of October 19.
Trees fell on and damaged the houses of Surekha Poojary at Belman village and Vamana Udupa at Kukkundur village, with the total loss estimated at ₹80,000.
Heavy rainfall warning
Meanwhile, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on October 21 that heavy to very heavy rain/thunder showers are likely to occur in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on October 22. Heavy rain/thunder showers are likely to occur in Uttara Kannada district on the same day.
It stated that heavy to very heavy rain/thunder showers are likely to occur in the three coastal districts on October 23 and October 24.
The IMD said that light to moderate rain/thunder showers are likely to occur at most places in these districts on October 25.
