The Transport Department in Puducherry, on Tuesday (October 21, 2025), conducted an enforcement drive in the city and booked 28 inter-State and private omni buses for plying without valid permits.

Following directions from Transport Commissioner A.S. Sivakumar, a team led by Puducherry Regional Transport Officer Prabhakar Rao and Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspectors Santhosh, Bhuvanesh, Alex Andrews and Annamalai conducted surprise checks in buses plying on major routes.

The drive, conducted between 7 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. targeted buses operated by the State Express Transport Corporation (SETC), Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) and private omni bus operators. As many as 28 buses including 20 inter-State buses operated by Tamil Nadu Government were booked for plying without valid permits.

Mr. Rao said the primary charge against the vehicles was operating without a valid permit, a serious offence that compromises passenger safety and regulatory standards. The enforcement drive is part of an ongoing effort to ensure compliance and safety on the roads. Strict action will be taken against erring operators, he said.
