BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran on Saturday said the DMK government had failed to take precautionary measures to put in place all infrastructure for the timely procurement of paddy from the farmers in delta districts.
Speaking at a public meeting held here as part of his Statewide pre-election tour, he said the farmers in Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, and other delta districts were in tears due to the utter chaos and confusion over procurement of paddy and the inordinate delay in transporting the procured paddy to the warehouses. It had caused piling up of newly harvested paddy in the Kuruvai season. When the farmers brought 6.30 lakh acres under the paddy crop cultivation in June, the Government should have taken all necessary steps for the timely procurement well in advance. The failure of the Government had resulted in mess over the paddy procurement, transportation and safe storage.
Mr. Nagenthran said that the DMK government had failed to deliver goods in all aspects of governance. Most of its poll promises were yet to be fulfilled. Several months had passed since Chief Minister M.K. Stalin laid the foundation for a footwear manufacturing unit in Jayamkondam. But the unit was yet to be started. His government had failed to provide basic infrastructure for the people. The DMK would be thrown out of power in 2026 elections for its anti people policies and programmes.
Advocating the need for a better understanding between the State government and the Centre, the BJP leader said that the Centre sanctioned 11 medical colleges in the State when Edappadi K. Palaniswami was Chief Minister. It was made possible because of the smooth and better relationship between the State and the Centre.
