DMK town panchayat chairperson disqualified

The chairperson of Alangulam Town Panchayat has been disqualified as she reportedly did not pay the property tax to the urban local body.

After being elected to the Alangulam Town Pancahyat council from ward 7, DMK Councillor Sudha of ward 7 became the chairperson of the urban civic body. As she allegedly did not pay properly the tax for the properties she owns within the jurisdiction of Alangulam Town Panchayat, demand notices were issued to settle the tax arrears. However, the chairperson apparently chose to ignore the notices from the town panchayat.

Hence, Executive Officer (In-Charge) of Alangulam Town Panchayat Venkata Gopu disqualified her from the posts of Councillor and the Town Panchayat chairperson, sources in the urban local body said.
