Kittur Rani Channamma’s birth anniversary was celebrated in Raichur and Yadgir districts on Thursday with enthusiasm.
Minister for Minor Irrigation N.S. Boseraju inaugurated the celebrations with a floral tribute to the great freedom fighter and also, garlanding the Basaveshwara statue at Basaveshwar Circle in Raichur.
Rani Channamma’s portrait was brought to Siddarama Jambaladinni Rangamandir in a grand procession.
Additional Superintendent of Police Kumarswamy said that Rani Channamma bravely fought the British and her patriotism has inspired many a freedom fighter.
A similar celebration of the brave Indian freedom fighter was organised in Yadgir.
Assistant Commissioner Sridhar Goturi, who inaugurated the programme in Yadgir, said that Rani Channamma carried out a guerrilla model war against the British with the support of loyalist Sangolli Rayanna.
