Life term for Chhattisgarh native for murdering fellow worker near Coimbatore

The First Additional District Court on Friday (October 24, 2025) sentenced a man from Chhattisgarh to life imprisonment for murdering a migrant worker from Jharkhand near Coimbatore in 2024.

Judge S. Sashirekha awarded the punishment and a fine of ₹5,000 to Sudhan Thandi, 26, a migrant worker, who had been working in a textile company at Othakalmandapam.

Rakesh Kumar, 25, from Jharkhand worked with Thandi and resided at the same quarters provided by the company for workers. Thandi, who had previous enmity with Kumar over a petty quarrel, invited him to his room to consume liquor on the night of February 16, 2024. Thandi slit Kumar’s throat with a knife, which he had purchased for the crime, under the influence of alcohol.

The Chettipalayam police arrested Thandi, who was arraigned for the murder. The court, after the completion of the trial, convicted him to undergo life imprisonment on Friday.
