MGMGH treats 40 persons for fire injuries over two days


A total of 40 persons underwent treatment for fire wounds at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) on October 19 and 20 in Tiruchi.

According to an official press release, 22 persons were admitted as inpatients, and 18 were treated as outpatients over the two days.

A senior hospital official told The Hindu that a majority of the injuries were sustained by people while bursting firecrackers during Deepavali in an improper manner. “We have been seeing many children being brought in with burns caused by hazardous exposure to crackers. The crackers are being burst even two days after Deepavali, and we are continuing to treat new burns cases related to this,” he said.

Treatment was administered to the injured round the clock. In addition, the 17-bed capacity Burns Ward, two specially equipped beds had been set aside for those requiring immediate emergency care.
