Continuous heavy rain over the past week in the catchment areas of Gunderipallam reservoir in Gobichettipalayam taluk has led to the reservoir reaching its full capacity of 41.75 feet on Monday (October 20, 2025) night.
The reservoir, with a storage capacity of 1.08 tmc ft, is located at the foothills of Kadambur Hills, which serves as its major catchment area. Due to the persistent rainfall, the water level has reached its full reservoir level of 41.75 feet, following which about 1,000 cusecs of water is being discharged.
Officials from the Public Works Department and the Revenue Department have urged residents of Vinoba Nagar, Kongarpalayam, Vaniputhur, Thoppur, and other low-lying villages along the channel to remain vigilant. They have also advised the public not to take livestock near the channel in the downstream as a precautionary measure.
