The Tamil Nadu Pensioners Association here staged a demonstration over a raft of demands at the Collectorate on Friday.

The members of the Association demanded a 10% hike in pension for those aged above 70. Similar hike for family pension dependents was also demanded.

The protesters also demanded a minimum pension of ₹7,850 for anganwadi workers, noon-meal workers, and noon-meal assistants. The Association also called for an additional medical allowance of ₹1,000.

They also demanded a reversal to the old pension scheme. Similarly, irrespective of the date of death of the pensioner, the pension amount must be remitted in full to the account without deductions. This practice was in force in Kerala and Tamil Nadu must emulate this, the protesters said.

They also demanded a reduction in the commutation period from 15 years to 12 years. This was followed in Kerala, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh and must be implemented in Tamil Nadu as well.

Similarly, the protesters also called for an increase in the family welfare fund from ₹50,000 to ₹2 lakh and the same must be implemented for family pension beneficiaries as well.

The Association also called for remedying the discrepancies in the health insurance scheme for senior citizens. They also demanded free bus services for senior citizens.
