Three arrested for assault on trainee doctor at Tiruppur Government Medical College Hospital

The Tiruppur South police arrested three persons on charge of assaulting a trainee doctor at the Tiruppur Government Medical College Hospital on Tuesday, alleging delay in providing treatment to their friends.

Deventhiran, Devakumar and Bharathiraja, residents of Nallur, were arrested for offences under Sections 329 (4), 296 (b), 115 (2), 121 (1), 132 and 351 (3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 3 of the Tamil Nadu Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss to Property) Act, 2008.

According to the police, two friends of the accused were brought to the casualty ward of the hospital around 1.20 a.m. on Tuesday, after suffering injuries in a road accident. After providing first aid, they were advised X-ray scanning to identify fractures, if any. However, due to an influx of Deepavali related emergencies, there was a delay in getting the X-ray scanning done for the duo, the police said.

Meanwhile, the three accused picked up an argument with Karthik Murugan, a trainee doctor who was on duty at the casualty ward, and allegedly assaulted him. The staff immediately alerted the police outpost on the hospital campus about the incident.

Police personnel rushed to the ward and took the three into custody. The Tiruppur South police registered a case against Deventhiran, Devakumar and Bharathiraja based on a complaint lodged by the doctor and arrested them. They were remanded in judicial custody.
