Tamil Nadu Transport Minister S.S. Sivasankar inspected the movement of Deepavali special service buses to different destinations at the integrated bus stand, Maatuthavani on Tuesday.
Officials from the TNSTC (Madurai division) led by MD V Saravanan and GM K Mani explained the number of buses arranged to different destinations. Public, who had come here to celebrate deepavali with their family and near and dear ones, were returning tonight to Chennai and other destinations.
Depending on the number of reservations made through TNSTC app and through the website, the officials said that a total of 385 buses were arranged to Chennai and another 350 buses to destinations such as Tiruchi, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Tirunelveli and Nagercoil were despatched.
The minister interacted with some of the passengers boarding the buses to Chennai and Tiruchi about the experience in booking the tickets, officials said and added that they would ply additional buses till October 23. The TNSTC had transported people in 440 buses from Chennai to Madurai and 360 buses to different destinations since Oct 19.
The officials said that passengers proceeding to destinations like Kodaikanal, Munnar, Quilon, Coimbatore and other cities, the TNSTC app was more preferred than spot purchase of tickets.
