An assistant agriculture officer was arrested on graft charges by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) here on Thursday (October 23, 2025).
The arrested was identified as Murugesan, an officer at the office of the Assistant Director of Agriculture, Vepanapalli block.
The arrest was made based on a complaint from Mangammal, who had applied for a rural agriculture development loan of ₹30,000. Of the total amount, Mangammal had received ₹20,000, while the remaining ₹10,000 was held up by Murugesan. He had demanded ₹8,000 as bribe for the release of the pending money and later lowered the his demand to ₹5,000.
Mangammal approached the DVAC officials and a trap was devised. The accused was arrested while taking the bribe at his office.
