The Confederation of India Industry (CII), Titan and the CII foundation came together and launched a lake desilting project at Thalapalli lake and its drainage canal in Pedathalapalli village in Krishnagiri on Thursday (October 23, 2025).

The Thalapalli lake project entails desilting of the drainage canal that supports a catchment area of 5200 acres. District Collector C. Dinesh Kumar launched the water alliance project with the stated goal of “Reviving water bodies to revitalise lives” under the aegis of Bala Vikasa, a community driven non-profit organisation.

The Collector said water resource management around a lake would automatically nourish village economics. “A lake is foundational for the growth of a village. Every year, rain brings silt which has to be removed,” he said, citing the book Soozh by Cho. Dharman, as fundamental to the understanding water resource management.

According to the Collector, even though the administration and the government may have many plans for desilting, an efficient implementation of desilting can happen only with participation from the Corporates, given the number of water bodies that require management.

“In this regard, Titan is maintaining two lakh saplings through solar-powered borewells for the past three years.” The next initiative would be desilting Akka Thangai lake in Anchetty which had not been desilted for over 30 years, the Collector added.

Speaking about the CSR activities in water resource management, the Collector also urged the locals to ensure that the desilted canals are not encroached upon and to be vigilant about garbage dumping in the lake.
