Post-Diwali rush slows traffic at Tuvakkudi tollgate

Traffic congestion lasting 30 minutes was reported at Tuvakkudi tollgate on Tiruchi–Thanjavur National Highway on Tuesday evening, as several hundred people returned to their workplaces after Deepavali holidays.

Cars, buses, and two-wheelers queued up several hundred metres, particularly on the Thanjavur–Tiruchi stretch. Toll staff and police opened all lanes to ease the flow.

Officials said the surge peaked between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. but was cleared without major disruption. Motorists described the delay as expected during post-festival return traffic.
