About 1,40,000 hectares is under paddy crop in Ramanathapuram district this year. “In certain areas, the seedlings have just germinated and in others transplantation has very recently taken place. If the wet spell continues without a break, these crops may get submerged,” the official cautions.
In Ramanathapuram, the Railway subway at Landhai was submerged in rainwater and five villages have been cut off from the district, officials said.
